Overview
Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Geotechnical Engineering Intern to join our Mays Landing, NJ office for Summer 2027!
The Geotechnical Engineering Intern will gain practical experience through a balanced split between fieldwork and office-based engineering activities. This position provides exposure to subsurface investigations, geotechnical data collection, engineering analysis, report preparation, and construction observation services.
The intern will work alongside geotechnical engineers, field technicians, and contractors to support a variety of projects throughout South Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, and Northern Delaware.

Interns also complete a series of reflections, problem solving activities, contests, drawings, and create end of summer presentations which help showcase their learning and experiences. Additional networking and trainings specific to the students' areas of study are also made available to students throughout the Summer Internship program.
Our internship program is designed to help grow our organization organically with talented individuals starting their careers all over the country. On average, we make full-time, permanent offers to students approaching graduation within a year more than 50% of the time. We want great talent to start their careers here stay with CED and its affiliates for their entire career!

The intern will work alongside geotechnical engineers, field technicians, and contractors to support a variety of projects throughout South Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, and Northern Delaware.
Responsibilities
- Work alongside field technicians and engineers during subsurface exploration programs.
- Assist with test borings for structural foundation investigations.
- Participate in test pit explorations and in-situ infiltration testing for stormwater management projects.
- Learn various soil classification methods and assist with soil logging activities.
- Conduct desktop reviews of available geologic and soil mapping resources.
- Research and summarize anticipated subsurface conditions prior to field investigations.
- Collect, document, and organize field data from exploration and testing activities.
- Process and organize field data for engineering evaluation and reporting.
- Compare expected site conditions to actual field findings and assist in developing engineering conclusions.
- Utilize Geosystems software to generate exploration logs and report deliverables.
- Use ArcGIS to prepare and update site location plans based on field investigations.
- Read, interpret, and review civil, structural, and site development plans.
- Assist with geotechnical report preparation, including:
- Site descriptions.
- Proposed development summaries.
- Engineering observations and conclusions.
- Observe and assist with construction-related testing and inspection activities, including:
- Basin construction and post-construction basin infiltration testing.
- Anchor bolt testing.
- Deep foundation and ground improvement installation logging.
- Support civil and geotechnical engineers with technical tasks and project documentation.
- Travel to project sites throughout South Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, and Northern Delaware.
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, or a related science field.
- Strong interest in geotechnical engineering, subsurface exploration, and field investigations.
- Familiarity with geotechnical engineering concepts, soil mechanics coursework, and geotechnical laboratory testing.
- Experience using or exposure to GIS software (ArcGIS).
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.
- Willingness to travel frequently to project sites throughout South Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, and Northern Delaware.
- Strong organizational, communication, and technical writing skills.
- Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret technical data.
- A valid driver's license and good driving record required.
- Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
