EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
- Assist in reviewing building permit applications for compliance with FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), Florida Building Code and Collier County Floodplain Protection Ordinance.
• Conduct basic flood zone determinations using GIS tools, parcel data, elevation information, and FEMA mapping products.
• Verify completeness of required documents such as Elevation Certificates, site plans, grading plans, and foundation designs.
• Support staff in evaluating development proposals for compliance with standards including freeboard, enclosure limitations, coastal high hazard requirements (if applicable).Perform initial reviews for substantial improvement/substantial damage calculations.Assist with maintenance of databases tracking permits, variances, flood zones, and development activity.
• Help identify properties in Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHAs), repetitive loss areas, and areas with prior flood risk concerns.
• Provide customer support to applicants, property owners, contractors, and developers regarding floodplain requirements, submittal processes, and needed documentation.
• Assist senior planners and floodplain managers with special projects, compliance audits, and internal workflow improvements.
• Participate in FEMA floodplain management courses, GIS training, and local code orientation.
• Learn local ordinance requirements, construction basics, and floodplain terminology under supervision.
• Contribute to annual reports, mitigation plans, or plan updates related to floodplain management.

Salary offers above the minimum of the pay grade may be considered based on qualifications. Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared emergency and/or declared emergency.
