General Summary:
The Mathematics Teacher is responsible for leading a dynamic and developmentally appropriate instructional program within the Middle School, with primary responsibility for mathematics instruction in grades 5 and 6 and a focus on pre-Algebra.
Reporting to the Middle School Head, this role oversees all aspects of the classroom experience, including curriculum design, instruction, assessment and the cultivation of a supportive and engaging learning environment. The Mathematics Teacher builds on foundational skills established in earlier grades while supporting a range of learners through differentiated instruction.
The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in Middle School pedagogy, experience working with diverse learners and the flexibility to teach additional courses, including Algebra II, as departmental needs evolve. Beyond the classroom, the teacher serves as a student advisor and active member of the Middle School community, supporting students’ academic and personal growth.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Teach mathematics classes as assigned, providing effective and professional classroom instruction, assessment, and management;
Deliver mathematics instruction primarily in grades 5 and 6, with a focus on pre-Algebra concepts and skill development;
Develop and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons that build conceptual understanding and mathematical confidence in middle school learners;
Differentiate instruction to support a range of learners, including students with diverse learning needs;
Demonstrate flexibility to teach additional courses, including Algebra II or related subjects, as departmental needs evolve;
Design and implement curriculum consistent with the School’s mission, values and academic standards;
Ensure classroom instruction fosters diversity, inclusion and belonging;
Assess students to evaluate their abilities, strengths and areas for growth;
Grade assignments and exams to build students’ confidence, independence- and accountability;
Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and instructional practices;
Establish strong relationships with students and families;
Demonstrate a growth mindset and engage in professional development;
Support School policies, protocols, and expectations;
Participate in required non-classroom activities including conferences, meetings, and school events;
Provide effective supervision of students in and out of the classroom;
Complete required reports and responsibilities in a timely and professional manner;
Perform related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, education, or a related field required;
Master’s degree preferred;
Minimum of two years of teaching experience required;
Demonstrated experience teaching Middle School students strongly preferred.
Special Requirements:
Successful completion of all required background checks.
