Are you passionate about helping adult learners build confidence and opportunity through English language acquisition? The College of Western Idaho (CWI) is seeking an English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor to provide engaging, student-centered instruction that supports learners in developing speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills for success in life, work, and further education.
In this role, you’ll create a supportive learning environment, deliver meaningful instruction, and help students achieve educational and personal goals while contributing to CWI’s mission of transforming lives through education.
** This is an evening position: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

- Deliver English as a Second Language instruction in speaking, listening, reading, and writing
- Implement Life and Work Skills curriculum and other assigned instructional content

- Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment for adult learners
- Adapt instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of students

- Monitor and assess student progress toward educational outcomes
- Collaborate with supervisors and fellow instructors to ensure instruction aligns with program goals and student needs

- Assist with assessment activities and reporting requirements tied to state and federal funding guidelines
- Support orientation, intake, registration, and testing activities as needed
- Maintain accurate documentation and follow program policies and procedures
- Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities as assigned
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support continuous program improvement
- Stay current with instructional strategies, educational technology, and adult learning best practices
- Convey by words and actions the values expected by CWI
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Evening position: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
- Class schedules, meeting frequency, and instructional assignments may vary based on program needs
- Generally, one hour of preparation time is paid for every two-hour class
- Bachelor’s degree
- Basic computer proficiency and experience using educational technology
- Ability to create engaging lesson plans and deliver effective instruction to adult learners
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills
- Commitment to supporting diverse student populations and promoting student success
- Classroom and online teaching experience
- Experience teaching adults in a Life and Work Skills ESL program
- TESOL Certification
- Master’s degree in ESL, TESOL, Adult Education, or a closely related field
- Experience teaching adult English language learners with emerging literacy skills
- Experience learning or using a foreign language
- Experience working with multicultural and multilingual populations
ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICANTS:
Most positions at CWI are in-person and based on campus. While some roles may allow up to two remote workdays per week, eligibility for remote work is determined on a case-by-case basis at the hiring manager's discretion. All candidates must reside within, or be willing to relocate to, a reasonable commuting distance from CWI. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
