Sequoias Community College District is seeking a qualified and equity-minded candidate to fill a full-time, temporary one year position in the Engineering Department beginning August 2026.  


Assignments may include evening classes and teaching at any of the Sequoias Community College District Campuses: Visalia, Hanford and/or Tulare. Participation in the governance of the Sequoias Community College District by way of committee assignments is encouraged. 


College of the Sequoias offers lecture-lab pay parity, as well as overload and large lecture compensation that may be additional.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Introduction to Engineering, Engineering Graphics, Statics, MATLAB Programming, Circuit Analysis, Materials Science and Engineering.  

Other responsibilities include maintenance of office hours, active engagement with campus culture, participation in departmental responsibilities, and the willingness to create and participate in and sustain an atmosphere of equity, which is respectful of diversity District wide.

The candidate must meet the following criteria.   

  • Master’s in any field of engineering  OR 
  • Bachelor’s in any of the above AND 
  • Master’s in mathematics, physics, computer science, chemistry or geology  OR  
  • The equivalent. 

JOB REQUIRED CORE SYSTEM COMPETENCY 

The candidate must also demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students pursuant to Title 5 §53022.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: 

The Engineering Department is looking for evidence of the following: 

  • Experience teaching engineering courses (lectures, and/or laboratories, hybrid) at the post-secondary level that includes introductory and major-preparation courses.
  • Community college teaching experience.
  • Online Teaching Certification that is from 2023 or newer, and/or willingness to complete a COS online teaching certification training.
  • Teaching experience at any level – please describe.
  • Graduate and/or undergraduate coursework related to teaching.
  • Familiarity with the educational needs of students pursuing engineering careers.
  • Successful experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and the ability to address the needs of frequently under-prepared students. (Diversity response will be completed as part of the application.)
  • Evidence of ability to use a variety of teaching strategies and assessment methods that encourage retention and successfully challenges a diverse student population to achieve their full potential.
  • Applied engineering skills
  • Hands-on skills in fabrication and repair of equipment and electrical circuits.
  • A professional engineer’s license or Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Experience working in an engineering role outside of academia.
  • Programming experience with MATLAB or other programming languages (e.g. Python, C ).
  • Ability to teach a course on computer architecture.
  • Dedication to professional responsibilities, community, and/or campus service.
  • Teamwork/leadership abilities.

Note: Applicants who have completed college or university course work at an institution outside of the United States that is not a post-secondary institution accredited by an accreditation agency recognized by either the US Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) must obtain a complete evaluation of foreign transcripts, degrees, and other relevant documents by either NACES or AICE.

Timeline: Application review will begin after the closing date. First-level interviews will take place on July 9, 2026, and second-level interviews on July 14, 2026.
