What are the responsibilities and job description for the TRIO Upward Bound Academic Advisor position at College of the Mainland?
Position Details
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology, or related fields
- Two years experience working with TRIO or similar projects
- Experience working with college and financial aid applications
- Individual with similar backgrounds as UB participants
- Experience working in high school and college settings
- Knowledge of federally funded TRIO programs or programs similar to TRIO grants
- Understanding of Texas Core requirements, academic/placement/career assessments, high school curriculum, course requirements, and program parameters
- Demonstrated knowledge of outreach, recruitment, and intervention services and strategies that address the needs of target population groups
- Interpersonal communication, cooperative problem solving, and public speaking skills
- Ability to multi-task, organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through completion with attention to details

- Primary provider of academic services and support to all UB participants
- Application and assessment assistance
- Monitor academic progress and provide intervention and/or referrals as needed
- Serve as the liaison with the target schools
- Maintain a working relationship with multiple COM departments, community, and parent/guardians
- Collect, prepare, and maintain confidential records and files to maintain compliance
- Interpret records for eligibility and placement
- Responsible for coordinating with target schools recruitment events for potential participants
- Conduct success workshops for UB participants
- Assist with planning and implementation of Saturday and Summer Academies
- Supervise UB PT Tutor Mentor(s) and oversee services and outreach at target schools
- Provide mentoring and assist with coordination of mentorships and internships
- Assist with the Annual Performance Review (APR)
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or less
- Ability to travel with UB participants on a school bus
- Ability to drive a rental vehicle with UB participants
- Ability to travel overnight with UB participants
- Ability to work evenings and Saturdays as scheduled
