The Executive Director, Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) is a key leadership role responsible for providing vision, strategic direction, and oversight for all activities related to the enhancement of teaching and learning at the College. This position requires a visionary and collaborative individual with a deep understanding of instructional best practices, curriculum development, and faculty professional development. The Executive Director will work closely with faculty, administrators, and staff to promote a culture of excellence in teaching and learning that reflects evidence-based practices to promote student learning and success.

This position advances teaching excellence, high-quality learning experience in all modalities, and coordinates academic support across campuses and modalities. The Executive Director is a strategic position designed to lead cultural and technological change for teaching and learning across multiple disciplines, modalities, and campuses.

The Executive Director, CTLE is supervised by the Vice President of Learning and provides strategic leadership and supervision for the Director of Learning Commons (library, testing, tutoring), Director of Distance Education, and East Co-Chair of the Teaching and Learning Hub.
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence, aligning faculty development, learning support services, and distance education with the college's mission, strategic plan, and student success priorities.
  • Supervise and evaluate the Director of Learning Commons, Director of Distance Education, and East Hub Co-Chair, establishing annual goals, providing coaching, and ensuring collaboration and alignment across units.
  • Develop, implement, and assess a comprehensive faculty development program that promotes evidence-based teaching, inclusive pedagogy, effective assessment practices, and appropriate use of instructional technologies across all delivery modes.
  • Ensure Learning Commons services, including library resources, tutoring, academic support, and testing, are intentionally aligned with curricular needs, accreditation requirements, and targeted support for high-impact course and courses with high drop, fail, withdraw (DFW) rates.
  • Provide executive oversight for distance education, including development and implementation of quality standards for online and hybrid courses, faculty preparation for teaching online, and effective use of the learning management system (LMS) and related technologies.
  • Develop and manage an integrated budget for the CTLE, Learning Commons, Distance Education, and East Hub instructional support, recommending resource allocations that maximize impact on teaching quality and student outcomes.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and use of assessment and evaluation processes for all supervised areas, using quantitative and qualitative data to inform planning, improve services, and report outcomes to college leadership and accrediting bodies.
  • Participate in and, when appropriate, chair institutional committees related to curriculum, assessment, online learning, student success, and equity, ensuring that CTLE-related policies and practices support institutional goals and regulatory compliance.
  • Initiate and maintain internal and external partnerships, including pursuit of grants and collaborative projects, that support faculty development, instructional innovation, open educational resources, instructional technologies, and enhanced learning support services.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Communications and Marketing to support CTLE outreach efforts and ensure faculty, staff, and students are aware of available services and understand how to access them.
  • Attend and plan college and/or CTLE events and meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required:
  • Master's degree in education, instructional design/technology, curriculum and instruction, a teaching discipline, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Three years of full-time teaching experience at the postsecondary level, preferably in a community college setting.
  • Three years of progressive leadership or administrative experience in academic affairs, faculty development, distance education, or closely related areas.
  • Demonstrated experience in faculty development, instructional design, instructional innovation, AI literacy, and emerging technologies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity-minded, inclusive practices that foster inclusive learning environments, learning communities, and a growth mindset.
Preferred:
  • Doctoral degree in education, higher education leadership, curriculum and instruction, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Community college leadership experience, including supervision of professional staff and management of budgets and projects.
  • Experience leading or supporting distance education operations, including LMS administration/coordination, online program or course development, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Experience overseeing or collaborating closely with library, testing, tutoring, or similar academic support services.
  • Experience using data, assessment of student learning, and program evaluation to drive continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
  • Successful record of developing grants, external partnerships, or system-level collaborations that support teaching and learning initiatives.

  • Evidence-based, equitable teaching practices, learning theories, online pedagogy, and faculty development models in community college contexts.
  • Emerging trends and technologies in teaching and learning.
Skills:
  • Leading change, managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and facilitating cross-college collaboration in a shared-governance environment.
  • Strong leadership and management abilities, including strategic planning and resource allocation.
  • Planning, implementing, and assessing programs, including setting measurable outcomes and using data guide improvement.
Ability to:
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written forms and build relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, community partners, and system-level colleagues.
  • Recruit, supervise, and develop diverse staff and faculty leaders, and to foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and inclusion.

Salary : $5,788 - $8,682
