Located in the heart of historic Charleston, South Carolina, the College of Charleston is a nationally recognized public university. Founded in 1770, the College is the oldest educational institution south of Virginia and the 13th oldest in the US. The College of Charleston is among the nation's top universities for quality education, student life, and affordability. Its beautiful and historic campus, combined with contemporary facilities, cutting-edge programs, and accessible faculty, attracts students from across the US and around the world. Over 10,000 undergraduates and approximately 500 graduate students at the College enjoy a small campus feel blended with the advantages and diversity of a mid-sized, urban university. Students work closely with a committed faculty that is made up of more than 500 distinguished teacher-scholars. And the city of Charleston - world-renowned for its history, architecture, culture, and coastal environment - serves as a living and learning laboratory for experiences in business, science, technology, teaching, the humanities, languages, and the arts.

The responsibilities of an Assistant Professor include 1) providing high-quality instruction in three course sections per semester within the Public Health Program, two of which will cover sections of PBHL 257: Principals of Human Nutrition, 2) maintaining an independent research agenda at the level of expectation for a tenure-track faculty member, 3) offering academic advising and professional mentoring for public health majors, 4) engaging in professional service activities, 5) working collaboratively within the program and department to help meet stated goals and objectives, and 6) committing to a liberal arts and sciences undergraduate education.

Applicants must possess an earned PhD degree in public health or closely related discipline from an accredited institution by August 15, 2027. Applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to teach undergraduate-level students with the promise of teaching excellence. We welcome applicants with research expertise in public health and human nutrition; applicants should show scholarly promise through authorship on professional presentations and peer-reviewed publications in relevant journals. Lastly, we prefer those with additional relevant professional certifications, a record of service, and/or mentoring students through the research process within a higher education setting.
