Position Description
The Department of History at the College of Charleston invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor of the U.S. Civil War and Reconstruction Era, to begin August 2027. Candidates should be committed to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching as well as scholarly research. In addition to upper-level and graduate courses in the Civil War and Reconstruction and related topics, the ability to teach survey courses in the General Education curriculum in pre-modern and/or modern history is essential. All requirements for the Ph.D. in History must be completed by August 2027.
Located in the heart of historic downtown Charleston, the College of Charlestonis a public institution of 11,000 students with a commitment to excellence in teaching and research. The Department of History currently has more than three dozen faculty members with strong traditions of research engagement and innovative pedagogy. Faculty interests span a wide range of geographical areas and thematic perspectives, and the department promotes global thinking across the curriculum.
