Classroom Assistant — Job Description
Hours: Monday–Thursday, 24–32 hrs/week (includes ~45 min/day setup/cleanup, 30-min lunch, breaks)
Qualifications:
- 12 ECE units (or 6 units with proof of enrollment in additional units)
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred (school offers training every other year)
- Mandated Reporter certification
- Food Handler Certification
- Montessori interest or experience a plus
- Experience with toddlers (2–3 years old) a plus — this role works in our Toddler classroom
Job Duties:
Classroom Support
- Work under the lead guide's direction; follow classroom procedures and expectations
- Maintain a clean, safe environment (dusting, cleaning materials/shelves, flagging supply needs)
Working with Children
- Supervise and observe children during independent work time, respecting their pace and choices
- Support care routines (diapering/toilet training, snack/lunch)
- Supervise outdoor play per school safety guidelines, monitoring for hazards
Communication & Professionalism
- Refer parent questions/concerns to the lead guide
- Communicate classroom needs and concerns to the lead guide and administration
- Follow school policies (safety, food, illness, etc.)
- Maintain a professional demeanor with staff, families, and administration at all times
