Job description:
We are seeking a skilled Truss Designer to join our expanding construction team based in Cedar Hill, Texas. This full-time, permanent role is ideal for a structural design professional who excels at developing practical and innovative truss solutions that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and quality in both residential and commercial projects.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop structural layouts specifically for roof and floor trusses, ensuring compliance with project specifications, building codes, and industry standards.
- Interpret and analyze architectural and structural drawings to produce accurate truss designs.
- Prepare precise truss placement plans, material take-offs, and cost estimates to support project budgeting and efficiency.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure truss designs are practical, structurally sound, and aligned with construction schedules.
- Maintain organized records of design revisions, project updates, and approved changes throughout the design process.
- Produce and deliver detailed truss shop drawings and submittal packages in a timely and professional manner.
Skills:
- Proficiency in truss design software and tools, with the ability to create accurate roof and floor truss layouts.
- Strong knowledge of wood framing methods, structural principles, and load distribution as they apply to truss systems.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings to generate precise truss placement plans.
- Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to address design challenges efficiently.
- Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple truss design projects and revisions simultaneously.
- Effective communication skills to coordinate with engineers, project managers, production teams, and clients.
- Proven ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality in truss design deliverables.
Education and experience:
- Minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience in truss design or related construction design work.
- Strong understanding of wood framing methods and fundamental truss engineering principles.
- Hands-on experience with truss layouts, framing practices, or prior exposure to construction sites is highly beneficial.
- Education or formal training in drafting, structural design, or engineering is preferred.
- Bilingual communication skills (English/Spanish) are considered an asset.
