Job Location: Redmond, WA 98052 (Hybrid- 3 day Onsite)
Job Duration: 9 months (Contract to hire)
Pay Rate: $67.38/hr to $68.38/hr
Job Description:
- As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for client project Tooling, you will support the program on the transition from development into stable production.
- You will develop, design, analyze, and implement custom tooling and equipment required for assembling and testing the satellite.
- You will need to convert the requests from various teams into systems that are easy to use, cost effective, and accurate.
- In addition, you will be responsible for project management, cost estimate and scheduling.
- This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position, and you’ll work with leaders in multiple technology areas.

Key job responsibilities:
- Work with vehicle, manufacturing, integration and operation teams to define and conceive creative solutions to unique problems.
- Design fixtures, mechanisms, and other types of hardware to support safe, efficient, and reliable testing of satellite components.
- Utilize engineering fundamentals to validate the design including hand-calculations and Finite Element Analysis.
- Geometric design using 3D CAD (NX) for parts and assemblies and 2D engineering drawings to communicate design intent.
- Project manage execution of design including budgeting, scheduling and working with manufacturing teams and vendors.
- Work directly with manufacturing and operation teams on commissioning designs on production floor.
Required Skills:
- 5 years of experience in the design of mechanisms, bolted and welded structures, assembly fixtures, alignment fixtures, test fixtures, rigging, and material handling.
- Experience designing with NX CAD program. Some experience is beneficial but not required to have 5 plus years.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals and implementing first principles to create innovative and efficient designs.
- Design and analysis experience with stiffness/strength, structural dynamics, weldments, and bolted structures.
- Practical knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials used in tooling and rapid prototyping
- Laser tracking experience is a plus
- Cross-organizational communication – comfortable evangelizing ideas and concerns clearly and persuasively, in both verbal and written forms.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or relevant experience.
- 5 years of experience with CAD design of complex systems including 3D modeling, drawings, and GD&T.
- 3 years of experience of structural analysis including hand calculations and finite element analysis.
- 3 years of experience with project management, schedule, and budgeting.
