Position Title: Elementary Assistant Principal 

 

Job Status:     Full Time Reports To: Building Principal

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Amount of Travel: 10-25%

Salary Range: $75,000-$85,000

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Watson Chapel School District (WCSD) is seeking highly qualified, student-centered applicants for the Elementary Assistant Principal position. The Elementary Assistant Principal supports the Principal in serving as an instructional leader and assists in ensuring high levels of student achievement by effectively implementing curriculum, instruction, assessment, school culture, and operations.

The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong commitment to academic excellence, positive school culture, instructional coaching, student support systems, and collaborative leadership. The Assistant Principal plays a key role in daily building operations, student discipline, staff supervision, and implementation of district initiatives.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

Instructional Leadership (Primary Responsibilities)

  • Assists the Principal in improving teaching and learning in every classroom.
  • Supports implementation of a guaranteed and viable curriculum aligned to the Arkansas Academic Standards.
  • Supports implementation of district-adopted curriculum.
  • Assists with the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.
  • Conducts classroom observations and walkthroughs, providing actionable feedback and coaching to teachers.
  • Supports Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and collaborative teacher teams focused on student achievement.
  • Uses multiple data sources (formative, summative, diagnostic, and behavioral data) to assist teachers in improving instructional practices and student outcomes. Assists in overseeing intervention systems (RTI/MTSS) to address academic and behavioral needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.

School Culture, Climate, and Student Support 

  • Assists in establishing and sustaining a positive, inclusive, and academically focused school culture.
  • Administers student discipline in a fair, consistent, and restorative manner.
  • Supports behavior systems and monitors implementation.
  • Monitors student attendance, behavior, and engagement.
  • Oversees daily student supervision, including arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and transitions.
  • Supports crisis response procedures and student safety protocols.
  • Ensures compliance with state and federal student support requirements, including FINS petitions, documentation, and court proceedings as needed.
  • Supports student registration, scheduling, and academic placement processes.

Personnel Leadership and Professional Growth

  • Assists in supervising, supporting, and evaluating certified and classified staff in accordance with district policy and state regulations.
  • Provides coaching and support for instructional improvement.
  • Assists in planning and facilitating professional learning aligned to school and district goals.
  • Participates in recruitment, interviewing, reference checks, and hiring processes.
  • Fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement among staff.
  • Models professionalism, accountability, and collaborative leadership.
  • Supports new teacher mentoring and induction processes.

Operations, Safety, and Compliance

  • Assists with the development and management of the master schedule.
  • Supports campus safety and security planning in collaboration with district leadership and law enforcement partners.
  • Assists with supervision of state and federal program compliance at the building level.
  • Reviews purchase requests and monitors assigned budget areas.
  • Maintains accurate records, reports, and documentation as required.
  • Ensures compliance with district policies, Arkansas Department of Education regulations, and applicable laws.
  • Assists with the supervision of extracurricular activities and school events.

 

Family and Community Engagement

  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding student support and school operations.
  • Assists in resolving parent concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  • Participates in school and community events.
  • Supports strong school-home partnerships to enhance student success.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Educational Leadership, Administration, Supervision, or related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience required
  • Valid Arkansas Building-Level Administrator License
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Knowledge of current trends in instructional leadership, data analysis, professional development delivery models, and eliminating academic and behavioral achievement gaps.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize work, and complete work in a timely and accurate manner
  • Ability to deal effectively with students, teachers, administrators, support staff, central office staff, parents, and the community
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, parents, and central office leadership

 

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS: 

  • Proficient with learning management systems (LMS) and student information systems (SIS)
  • Experience using instructional data dashboards and assessment tools
  • Working knowledge of Google Workspace and/or Microsoft 365
  • Ability to leverage technology to support instruction and operations

  • Understands how school systems align with district strategic goals
  • Uses data and research to inform decision-making
  • Prioritizes mission-critical issues and high-impact initiatives
  • Develops practical solutions to instructional and operational challenges

 

EVALUATION/ PERFORMANCE REVIEW CRITERIA:

Performance will be evaluated annually by the Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent using the AR LEADS - Administrator 2.0 rubric, aligned with the responsibilities outlined in this job description.
