Cole Academy is hiring a Full Time Elementary School ELL Interventionist-Media Specialist.
Cole Academy is Lansing's longest-standing charter school in the state of Michigan and received a charter through Central Michigan University in 1995. The Academy originated as an Early Childhood Center and over the years, gradually became a K-5 Public School. Combining a foundation of current, research-based, balanced literacy objectives and a sustained professional development direction from Heggerty and UFLI and current literacy program supports that "raised the bar" for student achievement. Reader’s and Writer’s Workshops continue to be critical directions for Cole Academy. Math facts operation and mastery and problem-solving are a strong focus within our math curriculum. MTSS tiered interventions and support and PBIS behavior support continue to be at the forefront of our student progress monitoring for student growth and success. All core subjects are a priority with ELA and Math as the foundation.

Performance Responsibilities:

Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and student-centered ELL-Media Specialist to join our elementary school team. The ELL-Media Specialist will support English Language Learners (ELLs) in developing their English language proficiency while fostering a love of reading, research, and digital literacy through the school media center. This role works closely with classroom teachers, administrators, students, and families to provide targeted language instruction, manage library and media resources, and create an inclusive learning environment that supports the academic success of all students.
Key Responsibilities:
Essential Duties:
Provide direct instructional support to English Language Learners through individual, small-group, and classroom-based instruction.
Assist in the implementation of language acquisition programs and support student achievement goals.
Monitor student progress in English language development and maintain appropriate documentation and assessment records.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to support language development across all content areas.
Assist in identifying and assessing students who may qualify for ELL services.
Develop and implement instructional strategies that promote language acquisition and academic success.
Manage and maintain the school library/media center, including organizing materials and resources.
Teach students library, research, digital citizenship, and information literacy skills.
Assist students and staff in locating and utilizing library, technology, and media resources.
Promote literacy through reading initiatives, book displays, special events, and other programs.
Support the integration of technology and digital resources into classroom instruction.
Communicate effectively with teachers, students, and parents regarding student progress and available resources.
Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure student success.
Maintain confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information.
Assist in the preparation and delivery of instructional plans and learning activities.
Support student assessment and data collection efforts.
Regular and predictable attendance.
Cognitive Demands:

Assist students when necessary.
Withstand a moderate noise level.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education, English as a Second Language (ESL), Library Science, or a related field.
Valid Michigan teaching certificate with an ESL/ELL endorsement preferred.
Previous experience working with elementary-aged students, English Language Learners, or in a school library/media setting preferred.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Knowledge of language acquisition strategies, literacy development, and educational technology.
Patience, cultural awareness, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed academically and socially.
