Position Summary
The Turf Tech Trainee is an entry-level position designed to provide hands-on training and foundational knowledge of Coldwater Landscapes’ turf care operations. Trainees will work closely with experienced technicians to learn the fundamentals of turf management, equipment operation, safety procedures, and customer communication.
This position is the first step toward becoming a fully qualified Turf Technician. The training program includes one-on-one instruction, in-field observation, and supervised practice to build confidence and technical ability. Upon successful completion of training, the trainee may advance to the position of Turf Technician I.
Responsibilities
This work may include, but is not limited to:
- Completing the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) Lawn Care Technician Training Program and all assigned Paycom learning modules.
- Participating in a two-week ride-along rotation with experienced team members to gain practical knowledge of day-to-day operations.
- Learning and demonstrating safe operation of turf equipment, including backpack sprayers, push spreaders, pump and tank sprayers, and Permagreen units.
- Navigating and utilizing the Real Green app for routes, production tracking, and service documentation.
- Identifying common turf types, weeds, and pests and learning appropriate treatment methods.
- Properly handling, mixing, and applying fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides under supervision.
- Assisting with the preparation of job materials and ensuring trucks and equipment are properly stocked.
- Maintaining all tools and equipment in a clean and safe condition.
- Understanding and following company safety procedures, PPE requirements, and vehicle operation standards.
- Communicating professionally with customers and team members.
- Participating in crew and department safety meetings as directed.
Qualifications
The following education, skills, and experience are required for this role:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to lift up to 80 lbs. and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills.
- Interest in turf care, landscaping, or horticulture.
- Ability to obtain pesticide certification as required.
- Commitment to completing all training modules and safety requirements.
Salary : $16 - $25
