Job Title: Sailing Instructor
Location: Cold Spring Harbor, NY
Job Type: Part-time/Seasonal Hourly
Job Overview:
We are seeking passionate and enthusiastic sailing instructors and race coaches to help train and coach our beginner and advanced sailors, ranging in age from 8 to 16, in Junior Sailing, Boating, and all on-water activities. Boats include Optimist, ILCA (Laser), RS Feva, and Club 420. Positions are salaried, full-time for 8 weeks beginning mid-June and ending mid-August, plus opportunity for incremental income in shoulder seasons and bonus potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote a positive and encouraging sailing environment that reflects the club’s culture. Provide hands-on coaching to junior sailors of various skill levels, from beginners to advanced, focusing on safety, technique, and sportsmanship.
- Where curriculum, weather or other schedule requires help to support other ‘on water’ activities with youth (e.g. SUP, Kayak, power boating, etc.)
- Ensure all safety protocols are followed on and off the water.
- Maintain clear, ongoing and timely communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress, schedules, and program updates.
- support sailors both in training for and during sailing regattas
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in sailing at a collegiate level (or comparable) and instructing, preferably with a focus on youth programs.
- Required: US Sailing Level 1 Instructor Certification, or higher, for race coaches
- Current First Aid/CPR certification.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Knowledge of sailing equipment, maintenance, and safety standards.
- Ability to work well with children, teens, and parents.
- A positive attitude, patience, and a passion for sailing and youth development.
- Must be able to comply with the Club's policies and procedures
Work Environment:
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to sail, coach alongside sailing counselors
- Ability to lift sailboats and other required yachting equipment
- Flexibility to work weekends during peak sailing seasons.
Dates/Timing Requirements:
- Full-time onsite Mid-June - Mid-August
- Ad hoc preseason and Postseason opportunities.
Salary/Compensation: Competitive and commensurate with experience. This is a seasonal hourly position with opportunities to earn additional revenue for motivated individuals
