- POSITION TITLE: Multilingual Learner Paraeducator- Secondary Education
- GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Multilingual Learner Paraeducator responsibilities will vary depending on the assignment, but typically include working in cooperation with MLL teachers, classroom teachers, and other pertinent personnel to assist non English speaking or limited English speaking students in developing oral and written communication skills. The Colchester School District educates approximately 2,200 students across five schools. REPORTS TO: Building Principals and MLL Teacher

EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated annually, in person and in writing, by the Building Administrators in collaboration with the MLL Teacher consistent with the process described in the School Board/Support Staff Agreement if the position exceeds 20 hours per week; otherwise, per current Handbook for Non-Union Support Staff Personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Educational background and/or interest in multicultural issues and languages/cultures.
- Experience and/or interest in teaching English as a Second Language.
- Personal qualities necessary to work with both students and other adults.
- Previous experience and/or ability working with children or adolescents.
- Commitment to the School Districts mission and Strategic Plan.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Communicate with MLL teachers and classroom teachers regarding student needs and instructional plans.
- Work with students individually or in small groups.
- Conduct activities that promote effective listening, speaking, reading, or writing skills.
- Assist students in learning content according to their readiness levels.
- Provide activities and experiences to help students adapt to American culture.
- Prepare students to master both basic and higher-order thinking skills.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by building principals and/or the MLL Teacher.
