The Colby Club Hockey team is a Division 3 member of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and the Northeast Collegiate Hockey Association (NECHA), a division of the ACHA. The team has qualified for the ACHA National Championships each of the past two seasons.
The Colby Club Hockey team practices and plays home games out of Colby College’s state-of-the-art Jack Kelley Rink in Waterville, Maine. The team plays 16 regular season games, primarily in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. The team has seen incredible growth in the last few years and consistently has a solid talent pool to select from. Last year, the team won the NECHA playoffs, achieved a ranking of 5th in the nation, and qualified for the ACHA National Championships in St. Louis, Missouri for the second consecutive season.
Our student leadership team runs all club operations, including game scheduling, budget allocation and distribution, and team events. Our coaching staff focuses on player development and team success.
We are seeking a head coach to lead our team. The head coach will run all on-ice team activities such as practices and games. They will also serve as a general resource and leader for our players. This is a part time position that pays $6,000 - $8,000 and will start in August 2025.
Job Responsibilities:
- Attend 2 team practices each week (approximately 2-3 hours per week, normally from 8-10pm)
- Attend all games, home and away, including possible playoff and national tournaments
- Organize and implement practice and game plans
- Serve as a resource and leader for all players
- Select the team roster at tryouts
- Set the team roster prior to all games
- Coordinate with team and club leadership on any disciplinary matters
- Attend league meetings
- Advise / mentor student athletes
- Responsible for personal travel to practices and games
Qualifications:
- One to three years of coaching and/or playing experience
- Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation
- USA Hockey membership for current hockey year
- Completion of any required ACHA and NECHA certifications
- Completion of USA Hockey Safe Sport Training for current year
- Completion of required USA Hockey coaching education programs (CEP) for age specific / league requirements
- High degree of professionalism, integrity and flexibility
- Desire to work with collegiate athletes
- Applicants for employment in the U.S. must possess work authorization which does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa
