Overview:
Health and Physical Education Teachers are responsible for fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that promotes students' health and physical literacy. These educators support students in developing the knowledge, confidence, and skills necessary for lifelong wellness, in alignment with SHAPE America’s definitions:
- Health Literacy: The ability to access information, resources, and services to maintain and promote health.
- Physical Literacy: The confidence, competence, and motivation to be physically active for life.
- Demonstrate strong pedagogical knowledge of Health and Physical Education content by planning and executing lessons aligned with the Massachusetts Comprehensive Health and Physical Education Frameworks and National Health and Physical Education Standards.
- Implement and incorporate Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to support diverse learners and foster an inclusive, student-centered environment.
- Possess a background in Adapted Health and/or Physical Education
- Utilize authentic assessments to measure student growth, and based on this, effectively guide the student learning process towards district curriculum goals.
- Collaborate with departmental, school, and district staff to enhance inclusive and equitable health and physical education experiences for all students.
- Effectively communicate student progress with staff, students, and families.
- Utilize technology and multimedia tools that are best suited for both health and physical education instruction
- Support students’ social-emotional wellness by incorporating strategies that promote resilience, self-regulation, and a growth mindset.
- Foster an environment that aligns with the district’s SPIRIT Core Values: Safety, Perseverance, Inclusion, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.
- Indoor: 1 gymnasium (mounted and protected flat-screen TV)
- Outdoor: 8 tennis courts, 6 pickleball courts, 1 multi-purpose natural grass field
- MA licensure in Health, Family & Consumer Science (All Levels) and Physical Education (PreK-8)
- Master’s degree preferred in Health and/or Physical Education or a related concentration
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required
