Mainframe z/OS Solution Architect

Cognizant is looking for a Mainframe z/OS Solution Architect to lead enterprise transformation initiatives spanning Mainframe Modernization and Hybrid Cloud platforms. This role combines deep architectural expertise across cloud and z/OS environments with strong business, sales and marketing acumen to deliver scalable, future-ready solutions. The architect will partner closely with clients and internal stakeholders to Modernize legacy platforms, enable hybrid architectures, and drive measurable business outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Architect and deliver end-to-end business solutions integrating Hybrid Cloud platforms with IBM Mainframe and z/OS environments to improve agility, scalability and cost efficiency.
• Partner with business, sales and technology teams to translate business objectives into Modernized solution architectures and transformation roadmaps.
• Lead mainframe Modernization initiatives including re-platforming, refactoring, integration, or coexistence strategies within hybrid cloud models.
• Provide architectural leadership and best-practice guidance across cloud, z/OS and enterprise integration patterns ensuring secure, resilient designs.
• Design and support technology-enabled sales and marketing solutions that enhance customer engagement and revenue growth.
• Oversee solution implementation and integration across distributed, cloud-native and mainframe systems ensuring minimal business disruption.
• Facilitate architecture workshops and stakeholder sessions to drive adoption of hybrid cloud and Modernized mainframe solutions.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements and organisational governance across all solution designs.
  
  

Required Skills/Qualifications

• 13 years of experience in Cloud Infrastructure with strong expertise in Hybrid Cloud and architecture models.
• Proven hands-on experience with IBM Mainframe technologies, including z/OS, and integration with cloud and distributed platforms.
• Demonstrated experience leading or contributing to mainframe Modernization and legacy transformation initiatives.
• Strong background in sales and marketing solutions, with the ability to align technology architectures to business growth strategies.
• Proven ability to design scalable, secure and high-availability solutions across cloud and mainframe ecosystems.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across business and technical audiences.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate legacy constraints and Modernization options.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications/Skills

• Advanced certifications in Cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with mainframe Modernization approaches such as hybrid coexistence, cloud migration or application refactoring.
• Experience working in large enterprise or regulated industry environments.
  
  

Salary And Other Compensation

The annual salary for this position is between $170,000 to $180,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
