Job Summary:
As a Medical Doctor working with Cognitive Diagnostic Associates, this part time role is focused exclusively on Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs) for students receiving or seeking special education services. This is not a clinical, treatment, or school based medical position.
The physician’s role is limited to medical records review, medical analysis, and report writing as it relates to special education eligibility under IDEA and California Education Code. Responsibilities include reviewing hearing, vision, and medical records; analyzing developmental and medical histories; and providing clear, objective medical summaries addressing whether medical conditions impact educational access, learning, or functioning.
This role supports psychoeducational, speech and language, occupational therapy, and related service evaluations by offering medical context relevant to special education disability categories. There is no direct patient care, diagnosis for treatment, or prescribing involved.
This position is ideal for a physician seeking flexible, part-time work in an evaluative, consultative capacity rather than a traditional clinical role.
Responsibilities:
Medical Assessments and Evaluation:
- Conduct comprehensive medical evaluations to assess individuals' physical health and its impact on their educational performance.
- Collect and analyze medical histories, symptoms, and other relevant health indicators.
- Provide medical insight into conditions that may affect learning, such as chronic illnesses, developmental delays, or neurological conditions.
Report Writing and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of medical evaluations, findings, and recommendations.
- Compile and analyze assessment data to generate detailed reports outlining individuals' health status and how it may affect their educational needs.
- Write clear, concise, and accurate medical reports that summarize findings and recommend appropriate interventions or treatments.
- Ensure that reports adhere to professional medical standards and ethical guidelines for documentation and reporting.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including healthcare providers, educators, and administrators, to share medical assessment findings and contribute to intervention planning.
- Communicate assessment results and recommendations effectively to families, educators, and other stakeholders.
- Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and discussions to address individuals' educational and healthcare needs.

Qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from an accredited institution.
- Current state licensure as a Medical Doctor.
- Experience in conducting medical evaluations and writing detailed reports preferred.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Attention to detail and proficiency in report writing.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
