The Coding Quality Auditor is responsible for performing inpatient and outpatient coding quality reviews, ensuring accuracy and compliance with coding guidelines, reimbursement rules, and facility policies. This role provides education, mentoring, and training to coding staff while identifying root causes of errors and supporting process improvements. The auditor monitors QA results, researches coding trends, and develops educational materials to enhance team performance. With a focus on maintaining ≥95% productivity and accuracy, this position plays a key role in upholding coding integrity and optimizing revenue cycle outcomes.

Responsibilities
- Perform inpatient and outpatient coding quality reviews (routine, pre-bill, policy-driven, and incentive-based).
- Provide education, training, and mentoring for coding staff.
- Assist with coding root cause analysis and process improvements.
- Monitor QA results and develop educational materials.
- Research coding trends and escalate findings as needed.
- Maintain ≥95% productivity and accuracy standards.
- Ensure compliance with coding guidelines, reimbursement rules, and policies.
- Support curriculum development and conduct training sessions.
- Participate in special projects and coding meetings.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in HIM/HIT preferred.
- Minimum 5 years acute care inpatient/outpatient coding experience.
- Minimum 3 years coding auditing/monitoring/training experience (strongly preferred).
- Experience in trauma coding and same-day surgery coding (CPT/PCS).
- Academic medical center experience preferred.
- RHIA
- RHIT
- CCS
- CPC.
- Expert knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT-4, Modifiers, MS-DRGs, POA assignment (APR-DRGs/APCs a plus).
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Data analysis and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EMR/coding systems.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
