Job Title: Certified Nurse Aide
Department: The Meadows - Assisted Living Facility
Reports To: Assisted Living Coordinator
Summary: The C.N.A. is responsible for providing quality basic healthcare to residents under the direction of a licensed professional nurse or registered nurse. Additional responsibilities include reporting any change in resident’s condition, any pertinent information to other health care staff or director of the facility, any request for information; and assist the immediate supervisor with tasks to support department operations, by performing the following duties.
Essential Job Functions:
- To report pertinent information to the nurse or director when applicable.
- Provide loving care and assistance with normal daily activities for residents of all levels or care.
- Treat all residents and their family members with a high level of respect.
- Participate and help residents to participate in a range of activities and outings.
- Perform standard Nursing Aide duties at all times such as:
documentation of required information, reporting concerns to a nurse, be responsible for resident safety, provide routine care as needed to residents such as bathing, cleaning, walking, and daily hygiene practices by performing the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Resident – Facility - Company: Assists residents with mobility as needed, answer signal lights, phone calls or request for assistance from any resident or any staff member. Develops and maintains a professional demeanor and rapport with residents, families and visitors.
- Resident Care: Follow care instructions per physician, nurse, or director. Assist with the ADL’s (activities of daily living) of residents and attend to their comfort and appearance. Assist residents with bathing, incontinence, personal hygiene, and change bed linens as needed.
- Monitoring: Able to take vital signs of temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, weights, record, and report abnormal readings
- Confidentiality and credibility: Maintain confidentiality regarding residents, families, staff, and the organization. Maintains records, charts, and adheres to HIPAA. Must be honest and able to work alone.
- Sanitation: Keep working areas and equipment clean and disinfect when applicable, uses proper protective clothing devices when handling/disposing of infectious materials including material exposed to blood or other body fluids.
- Service / Safety: Serve and collect food trays in facility, assist any department in service to residents. Participation: Participates in fire, safety, and disaster preparedness drills. Attend staff meetings.
- Teamwork: Develops and maintains good working relationships with other facility departments and departments within the Coffey Health System. Able to work within your department well and be available for coverage, shows up for work as scheduled.
- Communication: Utilizes established channels of communications and lines of authority in the chain of command of the system for problem solving. Perform any job duty deemed reasonable by supervisor, director and HR.
- Adherence: Reports all incidents/accidents in accordance with established System Risk Management policies. Adheres to The Meadows and Coffey Health System Policies and Procedures and the CHS Code of Conduct.
- Attend meetings related to employment at CHS and/or position.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent; completion of the State of Kansas approved Nurse Aide course, current Certified Nurse Aide Certification, current Basic Life Support, valid driver’s license, know and adhere to your scope of practice, apply time management to duties, have basic language, reading, mathematical skills and able to mentally and physically perform your job successfully. Experience as a CNA in a Long-Term Care or Assisted Living setting desired.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and questions form residents, family members, medical staff, and other employees and the public.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
