COFFEE COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM Job Description Assistant CoachResponsible to: PrincipalHead CoachAthletic DirectorQualifications:Meets coaching criteria as defined by TSSAA and/or other state interscholastic sportgoverning association.Relevant coaching experience preferredStrong verbal and interpersonal skillsEssential Responsibilities:Follows all school rules and system policiesServes as head coach designee in absence of head coachFollows all rules and regulations regarding the sport as defined in the TSSAAhandbookProvides technical expertise in coaching the assigned athletic activityMaintains professionalism on and off the fieldUnderstands and follows the proper administrative line of command and refers allrequests or grievances through proper channelsStrives to develop rapport and serves as a positive role modelTeaches student athletes the values of good citizenship, honesty, integrity,self-discipline, courage, loyalty and sportsmanshipEncourages community partnerships that enhance district programs and servicesAssists Head Coach in working with the media to develop a positive relationshipAssists Head Coach in working with the athletic director to evaluate program needsAssists Head Coach in making preparation for any athletic event in his/her respectiveprogramPromotes the proper use and care of school propertyRegularly inspects playing surface for safety concernsReviews procedures and schedules before the start of the seasonAttends all mandatory programs (e.g. TSSAA required meetings, first aid/CPRtraining, etc.)Encourages student involvement in program activities. Helps parents and studentsunderstand program objectives. Explains student responsibilities (e.g., scholasticeligibility, parental permission, physical exams, training/performance schedules,requirements for letters, optional insurance coverage, waiver forms, etc.)Assists Head Coach in organizing team tryouts. Maintains the integrity of theselection processAssists Head Coach in organizing and carrying out a practice scheduleAssists Head Coach in development of off-season activities (e.g., summer trainings,clinics, etc.)Teaches precautions and procedures to help students prevent injuries. Ensures thatmedical authorization forms are on file and readily available. Promptlydocuments all injuries that require attentionParticipates in student recognition programsRides on bus with players, when applicable, to and from games, contests and campsHelps with supervision responsibilities related to the preparation of athletic fields,and practice areasAssists Head Coach in assigning and keeping track of athletic equipment issued tostudents and staff, and helps to maintain inventory of all new and used equipmentEnsures that students keep locker rooms and practice areas orderlyHelps arrange transportation and lodging for sanctioned activitiesObtains permission to be away when duties conflict with other assigned dutiesTakes precautions to ensure staff/student safety.
