JOB TITLE: Accountant II - Senior
DEPARTMENT: Accounting
REPORTS TO: Accounting Director/Controller
JOB SUMMARY
Working with the Accounting Director, maintains various accounting sub systems, participates in budget and cost accounting processes, account reconciliations, month end and year end activities, productivity and departmental reporting. Assists Payroll in the area of general accounting. Assists as backup to Accounts Payable Clerk. Preparation of journal entries and monthly management reports.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a thorough knowledge of accounting principles. Prefer at least 2 years of experience in general accounting. Prefer bachelor’s degree in accounting.
EXPERIENCE
Hospital accounting experience preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Maintains the fixed asset accounting, depreciation records, entering assets into the fixed asset module, reconciliation to the general ledger, and preparation of journal entries. Maintains construction in progress records.
- Performs all areas of financial accounting.
- Work with staff to maintain the established productivity system. Distribute reports timely monthly.
- Prepare monthly journal entries to accrue necessary items with the goal of minimizing year-end adjustments.
- Maintain Accounting records for various accounts, and review to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Responsible for daily balancing of cash receipts and preparation of JE if necessary and reconciling to general ledger accounts
- Reconcile bank accounts and subsystems to the G/L monthly.
- Perform grant accounting, reconciliations, and reporting functions as needed.
- Help with requests from department managers as needed.
- Perform internal audit functions as needed.
- Assist Chief Financial Officer and Accounting Director/Controller in departmental administration and special projects as assigned.
- Assist with 1099 review and submission.
- Assists in the year-end audit and Medicare audits.
- Assists in compiling, formulating and reviewing fiscal budgets.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
- Serves as backup to Accounts Payable.
- Participate in hospital wide committees.
