Job Title: School Social Worker
Supervisor: Principal
Start Date: July, 2026 - June, 2027
Hours: Monday through Friday; LMS 8:15am-4:45pm, Upper School 8:45am-5:15pm
Compensation: Codman Academy Charter Public School follows a compensation scale based on years of direct experience. 1 year experience starts at $60,000, with 16 years direct experience starting at $110,444 annually.
Description: The School Social Worker serves the students whose social, emotional, and/or family problems interfere with their capacity to function adequately as a student.
Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
Individual Counseling
- Provides direct counseling as appropriate to individual students.
- Provides consultation to parents as needed and maintain student’s counseling files.
- Writes treatment plans/assessments for students in counseling.
- Organizes, and refers eligible students for outside mental health services with parental consent.
- Writes and monitors socio-emotional goals for specified IEP students.
Group Counseling
- Facilitates Talking Circle groups (approximately four 45 minute sessions per week) and Life Skills groups.
- Creates age appropriate curriculum to address student needs, including guest speakers.
- Makes referrals as needed based on student’s revealing information that is concerning.
Student Support
- Conducts family intake meetings.
- Mediates conflicts between students.
- Participates in Student Support Team meetings K1-12.
- Contributes to decision-making process regarding referred students.
- Develops individualized classroom strategies (socio-emotional, behavioral) for students to learn better and deal with their emotions, and to defuse conflicts.
- Consults with classroom teachers and administrators to help them better understand and work with/manage particular students.
- Reviews notes for the purpose of confidentiality and ethical norms.
- Contacts parents and works with them to ensure appropriate supports are being used at home.
Crisis Intervention
- Assists students in crisis situations and makes appropriate referrals and/or immediate interventions.
- Develops behavior modifications for students, enhancing student growth and creating a safe emotional/physical environment for the school.
- Meets with student/families to develop a socio-emotional plan.
- Makes appropriate and necessary home visits with parental consent.
- Files 51A/B for the school and does follow-up plans based on concerning information such as abuse/neglect or domestic violence that the student reveals in the session.
- Makes appropriate/necessary visits to home, and/or community agencies.
Homeless Liaison
- Identifies homeless youth and families.
- Connects homeless students and families to community resources.
Salary : $60,000 - $110,444
