Job Title: Teacher - History Teacher – Grades 6–8 Supervisor: Principal or Designee Start Date: July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2027 Position Type: Full-Time, 11 Months Hours: School hours. Compensation: Codman Academy Charter Public School follows a compensation scale based on years of direct experience. 1 year experience starts at $60,000, with 16 years direct experience starting at $110,444 annually. Position Overview Codman Academy Charter Public School is seeking a dedicated and equity-driven educator to serve as a Grades 6–8 Humanities Teacher, specializing in Social Studies and Moderate Disabilities/Inclusion. This dual-certified teacher will lead Social Studies instruction for middle school students while also supporting inclusive practices for students with moderate disabilities, ensuring equitable access to learning opportunities across the classroom. The ideal candidate brings deep content knowledge, strong differentiation skills, and a commitment to culturally responsive, student-centered instruction. An SEI Endorsement is required to effectively support multilingual learners in this role. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Student Support Design and implement engaging Social Studies lessons aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Differentiate instruction to meet the learning needs of all students, including those with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 Plans, and English Language Learners (ELLs). Incorporate SEI strategies and scaffolds to ensure content access for multilingual learners Provide accommodations and modifications per students’ IEPs, and ensure academic progress toward both content and individual goals. Support reading, writing, and critical thinking skill development across Humanities content. Collaboration and Support Collaborate with special education staff, general education teachers, and support personnel to ensure all students are receiving the necessary support to succeed academically. Work closely with other middle school teachers to design interdisciplinary lessons and activities that promote an integrated approach to learning. Participate in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings to ensure accommodations and modifications are in place for students with moderate disabilities. Provide small group instruction and one-on-one support for students who require additional assistance. Assessment and Data-Driven Instruction Use formative and summative assessments to measure student progress and adjust instruction accordingly. Regularly assess and track student progress towards achieving social studies and IEP goals. Provide ongoing feedback to students and families regarding student progress, setting goals and action plans for academic development. Collaborate with colleagues to analyze data and plan for interventions based on student performance. Behavior and Classroom Management Foster a positive and supportive classroom environment where all students feel valued and engaged. Implement positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) to ensure a respectful, structured, and productive classroom setting. Support students with emotional and behavioral needs through proactive strategies and interventions, collaborating with the school’s social workers and counselors as necessary. Family and Community Engagement Communicate regularly with families to provide updates on student progress and suggest strategies to support learning at home. Build strong relationships with families, involving them in their child’s learning and fostering a collaborative partnership for academic success. Qualifications & Experience Required Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies, Education, Special Education, or a related field. SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) Endorsement required Massachusetts Teaching License in Social Studies (Grades 5-8) and Moderate Disabilities (Grades 5-8) or equivalent. At least 2 years of teaching experience in social studies or special education, ideally in a middle school setting. Strong knowledge of inclusive teaching practices, including modifications and accommodations for students with moderate disabilities. Experience using data to inform instruction and support differentiated learning. Ability to work collaboratively with staff, families, and students to create an inclusive learning environment. Additional duties may be assigned by the supervisor. Preferred Master’s degree in Special Education, Social Studies, or a related field. Experience working with English Language Learners (ELLs) and using Sheltered English Immersion strategies effectively. Familiarity with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) or other inclusive teaching frameworks. Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs, including behavioral and emotional challenges. Skills and Characteristics Strong classroom management skills, with a focus on fostering a positive, inclusive environment. Ability to differentiate instruction for students at varying academic levels and with diverse needs. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate with students, families, and colleagues. Passion for working with adolescents and helping them achieve their academic and personal potential. Ability to demonstrate cultural competency and incorporate diverse perspectives into social studies instruction. Other duties as assigned.
