Who We’re Looking For:
We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator to support both Sybase ASE 15.7 on Solaris and SQL Server environments (on-prem and Azure). This role focuses on day-to-day operations while contributing to our multi-year initiative to migrate from Sybase to SQL Server. You'll collaborate closely with senior DBAs on performance tuning, database maintenance, and modernization projects.
This is a contract role, onsite hybrid in Lansing, MI.
Responsibilities
Maintain and support Sybase ASE 15.7 databases on Solaris (X86).
Support and optimize SQL Server environments across dev, test, and prod (on-prem & Azure).
Create/manage CRON jobs and perform Unix/Solaris scripting.
Troubleshoot performance, replication, and connectivity issues.
Participate in deployments, upgrades, and change control processes.
Assist with weekly maintenance and after-hours implementations (as needed).
Collaborate on clustering, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery efforts.
Contribute to the Sybase-to-SQL Server migration and related modernization.
Qualifications
5 years experience as a DBA supporting Sybase ASE and SQL Server.
Strong Unix/Solaris command-line and scripting skills.
Experience with migration projects from Sybase to SQL Server.
Familiarity with Azure SQL and cloud-based database environments.
Exposure to SQL Server clustering and HA/DR configurations.
Comfortable supporting multiple environments (dev/test/prod).
Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and occasional off-hours work.
