A Day in the life of Director, Performance Engineering & Commissioning
Practice Leadership & Growth
- Lead and expand our engineering, commissioning, and energy modeling practice nationally.
- Develop scalable delivery solutions tailored to regulatory driven scopes (ie: Building Performance Standards, Energy & Maintenance Codes) to ensure new construction and existing building compliance focusing on decarbonization, electrification and performance-driven upgrades.
- Help shape business strategy and service offerings: you’ll have a voice in firm-wide growth and innovation.
- Build industry presence through thought leadership, conference participation, and key partnerships.
- Serve as the senior technical authority on MEP modernization, electrification concepts, and performance-driven design for complex buildings.
- Oversee energy and decarbonization studies, energy and environmental modeling, energy management programs, IAQ testing, regulatory emissions compliance, commissioning (Cx/RCx), and MEP system upgrades.
- Advanced understanding of building envelope systems, including roofs, opaque walls, air and vapor barriers, and fenestrations systems, and their interaction with HVAC load and occupant comfort.
- Demonstrate expertise in evaluating whole-building energy performance, identifying efficiency opportunities, and implementing integrated solution that optimize both system operation and enclosure performance.
- Strong understanding of air leakage, insulation, glazing performance, and thermal bridging and their impact on energy consumption and indoor environmental quality.
- Establish rigorous quality standards, review high-impact deliverables, and provide coaching to elevate team capabilities.
- Manage a portfolio of high-visibility projects with major commercial owners, developers, and institutions.
- Partner with sustainability and code compliance teams to integrate BPS strategy with technical implementation.
- Manage team’s project schedule, scope, and budget control — ensuring excellence and profitability.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop engineers and commissioning professionals at multiple levels.
- Build a collaborative culture across disciplines including sustainability, building science, and compliance.
- Implement career progression pathways and contribute to a strong internal talent pipeline.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to key clients — translating regulatory pressures into practical engineering action plans.
- Support business development through proposal strategy, pricing, client presentations, and relationship management.
- Identify cross-selling opportunities across decarbonization, commissioning, and compliance programs.
- Engage and participate in local and national key building sector industry associations (e.g. BOMA, ASHARE, USGBC) to stay abreast of industry trends, influence standards, and identify strategic business opportunities
- Represent CodeGreen as the subject matter expert at industry conferences, webinars, and other public forums related to high performance building strategies, commissioning, and energy efficiency.
- 10 years of MEP engineering experience, including retrofit/electrification work for existing buildings (and building energy modeling??)
- PE license required
- Expertise in HVAC system design, decarbonization planning, and/or commissioning
- Experience with energy modeling tools (eQuest, DOE2, Design Builder and/or IES)
- Understanding of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), heat transfer, thermal modeling, and hygrothermal analysis.
- Track record of leading technical teams and managing major projects
- Strong communication and client leadership capabilities
- Experience navigating building performance regulatory requirements (LL97, ASHRAE Standards, Energy Codes, etc.)
- Proven ability to collaborate across architecture, MEP engineering, and construction disciplines to deliver integrated, high-performance building solutions.
