What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Coding Instructor position at Code Ninjas?
Who We Are
Code Ninjas is changing the world, one child at a time. In our center, kids ages 5 to 14 learn to code by building the video games they love. Our dojo-style belt system grows confidence, critical thinking, and problem solving, from white to black belt. Our promise: kids have fun, parents see results.
The Role
We are hiring a Lead Sensei to create an amazing, safe learning environment and guide a team of instructors. If you love programming, tinkering, and helping kids grow, this is for you.
What You Will Do
- Lead and coach the team: mentor high school and college Senseis, run stand-ups, and give actionable feedback.
- Be the technical expert: unstick tricky bugs, restart services, and keep tools and labs running smoothly.
- Own the learning experience: teach our self-paced curriculum (not lecture based) and keep students engaged and progressing.
- Support families: greet parents, share progress, and answer career or industry questions.
- Quality and safety: uphold dojo cleanliness, organization, and safety standards.
- Curriculum QA: test and debug new lessons and suggest improvements.
- Staff operations: oversee schedules, coverage, and day-to-day tutoring flow.
- Report weekly: share wins, issues, and metrics with the executive team.
What You Bring
- Kid-first mindset: enthusiasm for working with children ages 5 and up, patient, positive, and fun.
- Tinkerer spirit: you experiment, iterate, and teach kids to do the same.
- Gaming comfort: willing to set up, maintain, and troubleshoot game environments.
- Technical depth: 4 or more years of programming experience (professional, academic, or substantial projects).
- Familiar with some of these (not all required):
- VEX or Ozobot Robotics
- Unity, Roblox, Minecraft, Tinkercad
- JavaScript
- C#
- Youth work experience: mentoring, coaching, tutoring, or childcare.
- People skills: collaborative, calm under pressure, great with the public.
- Fast-paced fit: comfortable when priorities shift and you keep standards high.
