What are the responsibilities and job description for the Interior Designer position at COCOON?
At COCOON, we believe every home has the potential to be reimagined. As an Interior Designer, you’ll guide our customers through Stage 2 of the COCOON process—the moment when ideas become tangible. You’ll help homeowners feel confident and excited as they make design decisions, selecting the finishes and details that transform their space into something beautiful, functional, and unmistakably theirs.
This role is more than choosing cabinets and countertops (though you’ll do plenty of that). It’s about creating a simple, stress-free experience for our customers while ensuring every design is fresh, accurate, and in alignment with COCOON’s vision. You’ll collaborate closely with our Sales, Architecture, Estimating, and Production teams to bring projects to life—always with clarity, care, and excellence.
Design & Guide Customers
- Lead customers through every step of Stage 2: from understanding scope and allowances to cabinetry design, interior selections, and final approvals.
- Create design schemes, mood boards, renderings, and presentations that spark excitement and trust.
- Help customers select cabinetry, countertops, tile, flooring, hardware, plumbing and lighting fixtures, paint colors, and other renovation-specific finishes.
- Manage selections and specifications in Buildertrend, ensuring everything is clear, accurate, and within budget.
- Prepare cabinet designs and layouts in 2020/Chief Architect, and work with our cabinet specialists to finalize details.
- Order materials from vendors and track selections all the way through customer sign-off.
Collaborate & Communicate
- Partner with Sales, Architecture, Estimating, and Production teams to keep projects seamless from one stage to the next.
- Attend huddles, Lift Off meetings, and cross-department check-ins to share updates and solve problems.
- Communicate openly with homeowners, guiding them through timelines, next steps, and expectations with clarity and empathy.
Bring Excellence to the Process
- Keep Buildertrend schedules, selections, and approvals up to date.
- Reconcile selections pricing with the Estimating team before contracts are finalized.
- Review designs with the Interior Design Lead to ensure alignment with COCOON’s vision and budget.
- Continuously learn new products, tools, and best practices to enhance the customer experience.
- At least 3 years of full-time experience in residential interior design (or equivalent education experience).
- Proficiency in 2020 and cabinetry design.
- Experience with Chief Architect, Microsoft Office 365, and customer selection software (Buildertrend and Monday.com experience is a plus).
- Strong ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- A gift for guiding customers with professionalism, empathy, and creativity.
- A passion for design that balances aesthetics with function.
At COCOON, we’ve designed a better way to remodel—and as an Interior Designer, you’ll be the one to make it feel effortless for our customers. If you’re ready to help families see what’s possible in their homes, we’d love to meet you.
