- Develops, plans, and coordinates various internal and external public information activities
- Composes and publishes articles, stories, bulletins, booklets, radio/television news releases, and other County publications
- Supports the Flood Control District Administrator in a range of internal and external communications initiatives
- Prepares correspondence and answers questions, in person and by telephone, relating to Flood Control District operations, procedures and policies
- Receives and tracks citizen inquiries/complaints for the Flood Control District
- Communicates citizen complaints to appropriate staff member and tracks responses
- Generates regular citizen inquiry reports for elected/appointed officials
- Coordinates public meetings, including flood mitigation corridor meetings
- Conducts research and performs special assignments as assigned
- Develops and implements public engagement/communications plans
- Prepares and maintains records, reports, and communications for the Flood Control District
- Manages the Flood Control District website
Essential functions of this position include but not limited to: driving; sitting; working with and around others; dealing with interruptions; repetitive motion (hand/wrist) for computer work; vision acuity (near) for routine office and customer service duties; hearing and speech for ordinary conversation; finger dexterity for typing and paperwork.
Associate Degree in public administration, public relations, journalism, or related field, and five years of progressively responsible administrative experience, including at least two years of public relations related experience; OR
Bachelor's Degree in public administration, public relations, journalism, or related field, and four years of progressively responsible administrative experience, including at least two years of public relations related experience; OR
Six years of progressively responsible administrative experience, including at least two years of public relations related experience; OR
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
This position is exempt from overtime.

The ideal candidate will support Coconino County Flood Control District through various communication methods to help educate and inform Coconino County citizens, visitors to Coconino County, and the District’s leadership and other partners/stakeholders. They will have the ability to work independently and in partnership with the Flood Control District Administrator to coordinate both internal and external messaging. The ideal candidate has experience with and demonstrated strong skills working with the news media, with social media, and the ability to communicate directly with community members and support community meetings and education events. They also must be available to support the District during emergency flood events and serve as the Flood Control District’s Public Information Officer interfacing effectively with the news media. The ideal candidate will also have knowledge and experience with website design and management, social media design and management, strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to compose and publish articles, stories, bulletins, booklets, radio/television news releases, and other District communications/publications.
