We are seeking an experienced Applications Administrator with a strong focus on database management, application administration, and the integration of AI-driven technologies. Under general supervision, this role requires a comprehensive understanding of business processes and technical systems, supporting application design, data flow analysis, and system requirements. Responsibilities include comprehensive database administration, technical troubleshooting, performance optimization, system maintenance, implementation of new technologies, and strategic planning to ensure efficient, secure, and reliable application management across on premises and cloud-based environments; performs related work as assigned.
Occasional after-hours work may be required to address urgent issues, perform system maintenance, or implement planned upgrades. Establishing and following best practices for user support and system changes is critical to maintaining operational efficiency. This position also requires close collaboration with other Information Technology support teams to ensure seamless integration and effective problem resolution across different technical areas.
Please note: Presently, this position is up to 75% remote work and 25% minimum in office time. When working remotely, 1 hour response time is required for urgent IT matters and is subject to change at any time.
This position will require the successful completion of a Criminal Justice Information Services fingerprint and background clearance within 90 days of employment, this must be maintained throughout employment.
Typical Duties
- Database Administration & Design: Manage, design, and optimize database systems to support critical on premises and cloud enterprise applications.
- AI & Machine Learning Integration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI and machine learning models into application workflows, ensuring seamless database interactions for data storage and retrieval.
- Application Administration: Assist with the deployment, configuration, and administration of various applications to ensure organizational needs are met.
- Database & Application Performance Optimization: Continuously monitor, analyze, and optimize database and application performance to ensure high availability, efficiency, and reliability
- Backup and Recovery: Develop and manage comprehensive backup and recovery strategies to ensure data and application integrity, and business continuity
- Database & Application Security: Implement strict security protocols, including access control, encryption, and adherence to relevant industry standards and regulations, to protect sensitive data
- Capacity Planning & Scaling: Proactively plan and manage database resources to support growth, including storage, memory, and compute requirements for database systems
- Documentation & Best Practices: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of application and database systems, procedures, process mapping, and configurations, and establish best practices for development, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Analysis & Reporting: Leverage application systems analysis and database monitoring tools to track system health, performance, and resource utilization; while providing recommendations, various reports, and dashboards
- Incident Management & Troubleshooting: Respond to and resolve incidents or performance issues in a timely and effective manner
- Upgrades & Patches: Plan, test, and execute upgrades and patch management to ensure databases and applications are up-to-date and secure
- Automation & Scripting: Develop scripts and automation tools for routine database administration tasks, such as backups, indexing, and monitoring
- SQL Development: Write, optimize, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and demonstrate SQL reporting skills to meet application and reporting requirements
Other Duties as Assigned
- Provide support in the development and optimization of internal tools and applications to enhance operational efficiency
- Support data migrations, integrations, and the setup of new applications as part of larger projects or initiatives
- Participate in cross-functional team initiatives to improve the overall IT infrastructure and streamline application/database operations.
- Assist in user training and creating documentation for new application features or updates
- Research and implement emerging technologies (including AI, cloud, automation tools) to drive application performance and innovation
- Contribute to strategic IT projects as required, including platform migrations or integrations with third-party systems
Essential functions of this position include but are not limited to: walking; working with and around other staff and County employees; dealing with interruptions; repetitive motion (hand-wrist) for keyboarding; vision-acuity (near) for monitoring PC screen data; Color vision necessary for working with color coded cables; hearing and speech (ordinary conversation) for communicating with staff and customers; touch (finger dexterity) for keyboarding; Environmental hazards include electrical hazards associated with working with computers, servers and circuits, and potential for falls from ladders.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer information systems or related field and four years of progressive database experience; OR any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Associate degree in computer science, computer information systems or related field and five years of progressive database experience; OR
Six years of progressive database experience; OR
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
This position is exempt from overtime
