The Part-Time Scribe/Reader provides academic accommodations to students with documented disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and CCC policies. This non-instructional support role ensures equitable access to assessments and classroom materials by reading exam or course content aloud and/or accurately transcribing student responses. The role requires discretion, professionalism, and a commitment to maintaining academic integrity.
Position is contingent upon student accommodation needs and continued student enrollment.
· Schedule varies based on student needs, class schedules, and quiz/exam dates; availability Monday–Friday during assigned class times and testing sessions is required.
· Work is conducted in quiet testing rooms and/or classroom environments.
· May involve sitting for extended periods.

- Accurately transcribe verbal responses from students during quizzes, exams, or assignments without altering or correcting language.
- Handwrite or type responses according to student instructions and testing guidelines.
- Ensure all work reflects the student’s original responses.
- Read exam instructions and classroom materials aloud in a clear, neutral, and consistent manner.
- Re-read passages or questions upon request without providing interpretation or commentary.
- Verbally describe charts, diagrams, or visual content as required by accommodations.
- Arrive punctually and remain for the full duration of scheduled sessions.
- Collaborate with faculty and Disability Resources staff to uphold academic integrity.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of student information and testing materials in accordance with FERPA.
- Report any issues or concerns to Disability Resources staff promptly.
- Provide support professionally and neutrally, without giving hints, coaching, or interpreting content.
- One year of relevant experience or an associate’s degree.
- Strong verbal communication and active listening skills.
- Clear, legible handwriting or the ability to type accurately and efficiently.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and professional conduct.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain neutrality when supporting students.
- Sensitivity to the needs and rights of students with disabilities.
