Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up necessary supplies, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly in accordance with infection control protocols.
- Assist dentists during various procedures, including chairside assisting with restorative, surgical, endodontic, prosthodontic, and pediatric dentistry treatments.
- Take dental x-rays, ensuring patient safety and adherence to HIPAA regulations regarding medical imaging and documentation.
- Manage patient records using Open Dental practice management software ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Educate patients on oral health care practices, post-treatment instructions, and the importance of regular dental visits.
- Monitor vital signs and assess patient comfort throughout procedures to ensure safety and well-being.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing dental records, and assisting the dental receptionist with patient check-in/out processes.
- Maintain a sterile environment by practicing aseptic techniques and adhering to infection control standards across all clinical activities.
Skills
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, taking x-rays, and applying aseptic techniques.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry.
- Experience working with dental practice management software specifically Open Dental for managing patient records and medical documentation.
- Familiarity with dental coding practices related to dental procedures for accurate record-keeping.
- Knowledge of infection control protocols, sterilization procedures, and OSHA guidelines for clinical safety.
- Ability to operate dental equipment including 3D scanners and other imaging devices effectively.
- Excellent communication skills to interact professionally with patients of all ages.
- Understanding of general dentistry practices along with specialized fields such as prosthodontics and endodontics.
