Summary
We are seeking an Apprentice-Preservation Specialist to join our team at Cochran's Stone Masonry., located in western Loudoun County. This role is essential for ensuring that our projects meet the highest standards of quality in the preservation of historic properties. The ideal candidate will contribute to our mission of maintaining cultural heritage through expert stonework and carpentry
Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on carpentry. Develop proficiency in traditional timber framing, joinery, window and door restoration, wood species identification, and the repair of historic architectural woodwork.
- Perform hands-on stonework, including repair and restoration tasks. Learn the fundamentals of historic stone identification, mortar analysis and replication, repointing, stone carving, and the repair of historic foundations, walls and features.
- Gain a deep understanding of the construction methods, materials, and unique challenges associated with buildings from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. you will learn about structural stabilization, moisture management, and historically appropriate material selection.
Requirements
While no prior experience is needed; a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, able to work in all weather conditions, a basic knowledge of construction equipment, and an interest in historical preservation are essential. Compensation will be competitive and will be evaluated based on the individuals progress and acquired skills throughout the apprenticeship.
- High School diploma, valid drivers license, own transportation
