Under direct supervision, the Deputy Clerk serves an essential role in the day-to-day operations of the Clerk of the Superior Court's Office. Performs work providing customer service to the public, attorneys and court staff, processing court documents and files. Supports courtroom proceedings and ensures the integrity and accuracy of official court documents. Duties may vary based on training, experience, and departmental needs. Performs related duties as assigned.
The Deputy Clerk I position is an entry level position. Upon successful completion of the training period, individuals in this classification are eligible for a non-competitive promotion to the Deputy Clerk II position.
The Deputy Clerk II position is a journey level position that may train or provide direction to Deputy Clerk Trainees.
Essential Functions

TYPICAL DUTIES:

- Provide professional customer service in person, by phone, and by email
- Process and file court documents in compliance with Arizona statutes and court rules
- Handle payments, receipts, and daily reconciliations in accordance with Minimum Accounting Standards
- Maintain accurate digital and physical case files
- Prepare and issue certified copies, orders, and other court documents
- Support courtroom operations by attending hearings, recording minutes, managing exhibits, and operating equipment
- Enter and verify data in electronic case management systems
- Assist with jury operations, including data entry and juror check-in
- Work collaboratively with judges, attorneys, and staff to ensure accurate case processing
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
Minimum Qualifications
DEPUTY CLERK I:
High school diploma or GED equivalent, and two (2) years of progressively responsible administrative experience (court or legal experience preferred). An equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved may be considered.
DEPUTY CLERK II:
High school diploma or GED equivalent, two (2) years of progressively responsible administrative experience (court or legal experience preferred), and one (1) year experience as a Deputy Clerk of the Superior Court. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved may be considered.
Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license and the ability to be covered by County insurance.

Work Environment
Work is primarily performed under direct supervision in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls. May require travel to other court locations.
Physical Requirements
Essential functions of this position require: lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force; frequently lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds requires a good deal of walking, standing or involves sitting most of the time.
Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details and verbal instructions, requires emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability and creative problem-solving skills.
