Role Description:
The Optional Gymnastics Coach is a part-time/full-time, on-site role based at Cobb Challengers Gymnastics Center in Marietta, GA. This role is responsible for planning and leading practices for optional-level gymnasts, including developing training plans, teaching advanced skills and routines, and providing technical corrections and feedback. The coach will monitor athlete progress, prepare gymnasts for competitions, assist with choreography and routine construction, and ensure adherence to safety standards and gym policies. Day-to-day tasks include spotting skills, supervising training sessions, collaborating with other coaches, communicating with athletes and families about goals and expectations, and contributing to a positive, inclusive team culture. The coach may also support meet preparation, attend competitions, and participate in staff meetings and professional development activities.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrate proficiency in Gymnastics skills and techniques appropriate for optional-level athletes.
- Experience with Tumbling instruction and progression, including safe spotting and skill development.
- Strong Coaching and Sports Coaching abilities, with a focus on athlete development and performance improvement.
- Effective Communication skills for working with athletes, families, and staff in a professional, respectful manner.
- Previous experience coaching competitive gymnastics or advanced recreational programs is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of safety standards, skill progressions, and competition rules (e.g., USAG or similar governing bodies).
- Ability to maintain a safe training environment, manage groups, and respond appropriately to injuries or emergencies.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coaching certifications or gymnastics-specific training are beneficial.
- Capacity to work evenings and weekends as needed for practices, clinics, and competitions.
- Commitment to inclusivity, positive reinforcement, and supporting athletes of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
Requirements:
- Experience coaching USAG Levels 7-10
- USAG/SafeSport certified
- Pass Background Check
- Strong background working with children or students from all backgrounds
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques to foster positive discipline during practices
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to motivate and inspire participants of diverse ages and backgrounds
- Certifications in sports coaching, first aid, or CPR are preferred but not mandatory
- Ability to demonstrate proficiency in activities such aa conditioning, basics, proper progressions, and individualized routines and pathways for higher level competitive gymnasts.
- Ability to stand and be hands on for 4–5-hour shifts
- Strong spotting skills on all 4 apparatus. Ensuring safety, trust between coach/athlete and skill progression.
