What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sterile Processing Department Technologist position at Coastal Tides Surgical Center?
- This individual is responsible to the Sterile Processing Department Manager/DON
- Keep Department Manager/DON up to date with any occurrences or incidents within or related to the department.
- Don proper attire per departmental policy
- Wash hands with antimicrobial of choice
- Request for vacation or time away from work for personal illnesses, doctors’ appointments, or family emergencies are to be handled by the Department Manager/DON and should be placed in ADP.
- Absentees or tardiness shall be reported to the SPD Manager/DON.
- Performs quality control through routine testing and cleaning to assure sterilization equipment and instruments are functioning properly.
- Inspects equipment, instruments, and packaging for cleanliness, defects and/or malfunctions.
- Adhere to facility’s documented Infection Control standards and Policies as well as OSHA, AORN, state and federal guidelines and regulations.
- Documents sterilization cycle. Labels products with sterilization date. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
- Documents and reports instrumentation that is borrowed from or loaned to other facilities.
- Restocks and decontaminates sterilization equipment and instruments.
- Collects dirty equipment and instruments. Sorts, loads, unload and decontaminate equipment and instruments according to procedures. Cleans, repackages, and sterilizes instruments. Assembles trays, basin sets, packages, instruments and equipment and prepares items for sterilization.
- Decontaminates, restocks and assembles case carts and surgical trays. Ensures specialty carts are stocked and ready for immediate use.
- Completes daily cleaning assignment for the department.
- Listens and complies with assignment requests from the department Manager/DON.
