Durable Medical Equipment Intake Coordinator

Job Summary

The Durable Medical Equipment Intake Coordinator keeps equipment requests moving from referral through review and order processing. You’ll gather and verify patient, clinical, and insurance information, coordinate with care teams and payers, and maintain accurate records while protecting confidential information. Your impact: Accurate, timely intake helps patients and care teams move forward with appropriate durable medical equipment.

Duties

• Review referrals and medical records for completeness; follow up to obtain missing documentation.
• Verify insurance coverage and benefits, identify managed care requirements, and coordinate insurance prior authorization.
• Enter and update information in electronic medical records/electronic health records (EMR/EHR) systems; maintain organized records.
• Apply medical terminology and coding knowledge, including Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9 and ICD-10), and ICD coding, to support accurate intake and billing.
• Respond to patient, provider, and payer questions with clear, courteous customer service.

Experience

• Medical office or general office experience; experience with medical billing, medical coding, or electronic health records (EHR) management is valuable.
• Knowledge of health insurance policies, health insurance processes, insurance verification, and managed care requirements.
• Familiarity with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), clinical confidentiality policies, and handling medical records.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and medical terminology.
• Strong organization, accuracy, communication, and customer service skills; experience with CPT coding and ICD-9/ICD-10 is preferred.

Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
