Duties
- Develop comprehensive construction estimates by reviewing blueprints, specifications, and bid documents using industry-standard software such as HeavyBid and Bluebeam.
- Conduct detailed quantity takeoffs to accurately determine material and labor requirements for each project.
- Collaborate with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather competitive pricing, negotiate terms, and establish reliable cost controls.
- Prepare detailed proposals that include scope of work, cost breakdowns, and project timelines to support winning bids.
- Analyze project risks, identify potential cost overruns, and implement strategies for effective cost control throughout the bidding process.
- Assist in contract negotiations by reviewing terms and ensuring alignment with project scope and budget objectives.
- Coordinate with construction management teams on-site to gather insights on construction site conditions that impact estimates.
- Monitor market trends in construction materials and labor costs to maintain accurate and competitive pricing models.
- Support project management teams during the execution phase by providing updated estimates for change orders or scope modifications.
Experience
- Proven experience in construction estimating with a strong background in heavy civil or commercial projects preferred.
- Proficiency with estimation software such as HeavyBid; experience with Bluebeam is highly desirable.
- Solid understanding of construction processes, site management, contracts, and cost control methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively with vendors, subcontractors, and clients to achieve favorable terms.
- Construction site experience is a plus—familiarity with field conditions enhances estimate accuracy.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple bids simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills for clear collaboration across teams and stakeholders involved in the bidding process.
