Driver Apprentice - City

Position Overview: This role involves operating tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and straight trucks, with a focus on safety, freight handling, and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer units and perform safety inspections
• Hook/unhook trailers and handle freight using forklifts, pallet jacks, and manual tools
• Secure freight, verify documentation, and process freight charges
• Follow hazardous material regulations and dispatch instructions
• Communicate with customers and identify additional business opportunities
• Perform related duties such as road driving, tire chaining, and freight handling when needed
• Adhere to all legal, safety, and company policies
  
  

Qualifications & Skills

• Class A CDL or equivalent permit and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record
• Knowledge of DOT regulations and basic math skills
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds, sit for extended periods, and perform physical tasks
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or in a team
  
  

Working Conditions: Drive in various weather and road conditions, with exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials. Flexibility in working hours is required.
