Job Description
The Grading Construction Superintendent position is to oversee site grading operations on construction projects and ensure the progress along the way in a timely and cost effective manner. This position will be responsible for organization, implementation, and scheduling of projects from conception to completion. This position supports our project field managers (foremen) to ensure proper excavation and grading to meet specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Monitors all steps of the operations to ensure standard quality and safe operating practices are being followed. Carefully review plans, specifications and budget and identify any conflicts. Manage Foremen to ensure team is performing in accordance with contract requirements. Review the work progress on a daily basis. Maintain strict adherence to the budgetary guidelines, quality and safety standards. Other duties as assigned by Management.
- Attend Preconstruction meetings
- Assist the project manager in the development of project management documents such as project budgets, project schedules, scope statements and project plans
- Meet with project clients to assess their needs and define project requirements, acceptance criteria and project timelines
- Schedule utility locates
- Obtain necessary permits
- Coordinate/schedule with vendors and subcontractors
- Keep vendor PO’s and subcontract pay requests organized
- Establish laydown areas with adjacent property owners
- Schedule project site visits and walk-throughs when necessary
- Assist project management with monthly schedule updates and billings
- Coordinate the allocation of project resources (equipment, manpower, and materials) to ensure the project team has needs met with appropriate timing
- Assign tasks to team members and help them understand project milestones and deliverables expectations
- Act as liaison between the project team and project clients
- Read and interpret project blueprints, grade stakes, and construction plans
- Ensure grading is performed to required lines, grades, slopes and compaction specifications
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and inspectors to resolve issues
- Train, mentor, and evaluate crew members to improve performance and skill levels
