Dispatcher – Private Ambulance
Starting Pay: $20.01/hour Shift Differentials Overtime
Coastal Ambulance is seeking dependable, detail-oriented professionals to join our Communications team as Dispatchers. This role is critical to daily operations and patient care, serving as the central point of coordination between hospitals, medical facilities, field crews, and internal departments.
Success in this position requires strong communication skills, excellent judgment, accurate data entry, and the ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment. Dispatchers manage ambulance transports, prioritize incoming requests, coordinate field resources, and help ensure every patient transport is handled efficiently and accurately.
Reliability matters. Accuracy is critical. This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in being organized, dependable, and able to think critically under pressure.
Schedule Snapshot
This position works rotating 12-hour shifts on a repeating two-week schedule and may include day shifts, overnight shifts, alternating weekends, holidays, and built-in overtime depending on shift rotation.
As a 24/7/365 healthcare operation, scheduling may include evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, hurricanes, tropical storms, and Mass Casualty Incidents (MCI).

Additional Pay Includes:
In addition to base pay time and half for all hours over 40 per week, all Operations employees, including this position, receive shift differentials as follows:
Overnight, non-weekend days – Additional $4.00 per hour
Weekend Days – Additional $4.50 per hour
Weekend Overnights – Additional $5.00 per hour

What You’ll Do
- Dispatch ambulance units using radio, telephone, and computer systems
- Coordinate emergent and non-emergent transport requests
- Prioritize calls based on urgency and operational need
- Monitor field unit routes, availability, and response times
- Communicate with hospitals, facilities, and medical providers regarding transport requests
- Maintain accurate documentation of dispatch activity and transport details
- Report delays, transport issues, and operational concerns to leadership
- Support Intake operations and customer service functions
- Assist in maintaining smooth day-to-day Communications Center operations
Strong documentation and data-entry accuracy are essential to success in this role.

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Successful completion of in-house Intake Specialist training
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Strong computer skills and moderate troubleshooting ability
- Strong knowledge of Brevard County and navigation preferred
- EMS, transportation, dispatch, logistics, or healthcare experience preferred
- Experience in high-volume communication environments strongly preferred
- Must be fluent in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English
