Position Summary

The adjunct instructor for the Nursing Assistant Program is responsible for teaching the theory, lab, and clinical components of the NAS 100 Long Term Care Nursing Assistant course. Adheres to general faculty guidelines as specified by the College and Alabama Community College System.

Salary: $593 per credit hour.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

At a minimum, the essential functions of this position shall include:

  • Develops curriculum, plans and organizes nursing assistant course in coordination with the appropriate Division Chair. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to; ensuring assigned classes are held as scheduled, planning each lesson, organizing content using effective teaching strategies, and facilitating learning using best practices.
  • Follows College policies and procedures for keeping accurate course rolls, entering attendance verification, entering grades, performing class evaluations, posting office hours for student consultation, maintaining student files, maintaining courses in Canvas, and submitting all other reports as requested.
  • Collaborates with the Division Chair in communicating course and student needs.
  • Oversees and directs students in all clinical/lab activities.
  • Reviews and evaluates students’ clinical/lab performance.
  • Promptly completes student evaluations and posts results, keeping students informed of their progress.
  • Remains familiar with institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College Catalog, Faculty Handbook, and Employee Policy Manual; and follows such policies and procedures.
  • Maintains licensure requirements.
  • Maintains collegial relationships with clinical facilities.
  • Reports to work promptly and punctually.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Three years’ nursing experience. One year of experience must be in caring for geriatric patients.
  • Current, unencumbered Alabama or Multi-State Nursing License.
  • Adult teaching experience by one of the following:
  • Master’s in Nursing
  • Completion of Train the Trainer course or the equivalent
  • Completion of instructor training at American Red Cross
  • Taught on the college level

5. Understanding of the effectiveness and advantages of using technology as a teaching tool.

6. Evidence of supervising nurses or students in a clinical setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors or master’s degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Three years’ experience as a registered nurse.
  • Experience working as a nurse in a long-term care facility.
