Based in Arcata, California, with flexible remote work and some travel around the North Coast region.


Hours, Schedule, Pay, and Benefits:

The Outreach Specialist position involves a combination of office and remote work, with a flexible schedule. The Outreach Specialist will work 15-20 hours/week to start, with the potential to add hours if additional funding is secured. The position will pay $25/hour. Benefits negotiable.


About the Position:

The Outreach Specialist at the Coalition for Responsible Transportation Priorities (CRTP) focuses on public education, advocacy, and grassroots organizing to support CRTP’s mission of promoting transportation solutions that protect and support a healthy environment, healthy people, healthy communities and a healthy economy on the North Coast. Throughout all of their work, the Outreach Specialist centers CRTP’s priorities of transportation safety, sustainability, and equity. 


Duties and Responsibilities:

The Outreach Specialist works closely with the Executive Director. Duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Organize local transit riders to advocate for transit improvements and increased investment in local transit systems.
  • Provide support for CRTP projects and campaigns, including but not limited to grassroots organizing and signature gathering for petitions.
  • Conduct surveys, listening sessions and community meetings as necessary.
  • Develop print and online materials to support CRTP’s education, advocacy, and grassroots organizing efforts.
  • Stay up to date on current policies, regulations and land-use planning issues. 
  • Represent CRTP at public meetings and events, and in stakeholder groups and coalitions.
  • Contribute to CRTP’s weekly email newsletter and action alerts.
  • Work with CRTP staff and partners to monitor local land use plans and development projects and advocate for improvements.
  • Maintain and operate CRTP’s social media accounts.
  • Help coordinate events and programs.
  • Assist with grassroots fundraising.
  • Keep records of contacts and build long-term relationships to support ongoing organizing, education, and advocacy.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Experience and Qualifications:

Minimum

  • One year of experience in grassroots organizing, outreach or other similar work.
  • Knowledge of and experience riding public transit.
  • Experience and openness working with diverse groups of people.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, email, social media, and video conferencing programs.


Desired

  • Two years of experience in grassroots organizing, outreach or other similar work.
  • Education and/or training in the areas of local government, transportation planning including safe and accessible walkability, and/or land use planning.
  • Knowledge of and experience riding local/regional public transit on California’s North Coast.
  • Knowledge of and experience riding a bicycle, other micromobility device, or assisted mobility device.
  • Proficiency with graphic design and/or video editing.
  • Proficiency with spatial data analysis, including geographic information system (GIS) programs.
  • Proficiency in another locally used language such as Spanish or American Sign Language (ASL).
