Through our Juvenile Hall Facility Mentorship Program, we work to guide at-risk youth toward positive life changes and reduced recidivism.
What You'll Do
We are seeking a bilingual (English/Spanish) Youth Mentor Coordinator to provide guidance, support, and structured programming to youth detained in the Ventura County Juvenile Hall Facility. Using the ARISE curriculum and a mentorship approach, this role focuses on increasing self-esteem, improving life skills, reducing risky behaviors, and connecting youth with community-based resources.
- Supervise and mentor youth in the Juvenile Hall Facility
- Facilitate life skills training using the ARISE curriculum (training provided)
- Collaborate with facility staff to plan and execute activities for youth development
- Connect youth with community resources to support their reentry and growth
- Maintain case files and compile progress reports
- Attend weekly team and management meetings
- Provide administrative support related to program operations
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Management Team
What You'll Need to Succeed
Education and Certification:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Experience working with at-risk youth (personal lived experience in the justice system strongly desired)
- Domestic Violence Counselor Certification (within 1 year of hire)
- Sexual Assault Counselor Certification (within 1 year of hire)
- LGBTQ 101 Cultural Sensitivity Training (within 6 months of hire)
Experience Skills:
- Fluent in English and Spanish (required)
- Strong interpersonal skills to build trust and rapport with youth
- Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work effectively in a secure facility setting
- Excellent communication, crisis navigation, and problem-solving abilities
- Must pass an extensive background check (Coalition for Family Harmony & County of Ventura Probation Agency)
Physical and Social Requirements:
- Must be able to sit, stand, bend, or lift/move up to 20 lbs.
- Maintain professionalism, assertiveness, and a positive attitude in all interactions
- Ability to respectfully work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Travel may be required
