Overview:
The Structural Engineer plays a critical role in supporting capital projects, construction activities, and structural evaluations across large-scale facilities. This position combines hands-on field work, advanced structural analysis, and cross-disciplinary collaboration to ensure designs meet safety, regulatory, and performance requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide structural engineering services and field support for heavy industrial and power generation projects.
- Prepare and review designs, engineering calculations, technical memos, and project documentation.
- Conduct site walkdowns, evaluate existing conditions, and support construction teams with real-time engineering input.
- Develop cost estimates, material takeoffs, and project scoping details for upcoming or active projects.
- Provide schedule, staffing, and resource planning input to support multi-discipline engineering efforts.
- Produce and independently check structural steel and concrete design calculations, drawings, and connection designs.
- Perform structural inspections, document findings, and generate detailed written reports and recommendations.
- Coordinate with internal engineering groups, plant personnel, contractors, and vendors to ensure alignment on project deliverables.
Required Skills & Expertise:
- 20 years of structural engineering experience supporting heavy industrial, utility, or power plant environments.
- Deep knowledge of structural steel and concrete design principles and industry methodologies.
- Extensive expertise in structural steel connection design for complex industrial structures.
- Strong proficiency with structural codes and standards (AISC, ACI, IBC, OSHA, etc.).
- High-level proficiency with structural analysis software, including STAAD.Pro.
- Ability to coordinate and manage multiple large-scale, multi-discipline projects simultaneously.
- Experience performing structural inspections and producing high-quality engineering reports.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships with plant staff, design engineering personnel, and vendors.
