Project Controls Manager- Electrical Utilities
We are actively seeking an experienced Project Controls Manager to support the successful delivery of large-scale capital projects (Combined Cycle Gas Turbines) within the electric utilities and power generation sector. This role plays a critical part in ensuring cost, schedule, scope, and risk controls are effectively implemented throughout the project lifecycle.
The successful Project Controls Manager candidate will integrate closely with the Project Management team, provide leadership and coaching to Project Schedulers, and ensure projects are executed safely, on time, and within budget.
This is an on-site role, based in Ridgeland, MS. Project Controls Manager candidates must be local to the project area or willing to travel to and from the site for duration of the assignment (per diem provided).
As the Project Controls Manager your responsibilities will include:
- Provide coaching, guidance, and support to Project Controls Specialists across the full project lifecycle
- Integrate with the Project Management team to ensure successful execution of assigned projects
- Implement project management standards related to cost, schedule, scope, WBS, risk, and issue management
- Ensure reliable cost and schedule estimates and support achievement of project business objectives
- Support project and regulatory reporting requirements
- Promote safe work behaviors and adherence to all project safety standards
Project Controls & Analysis
- Prepare, maintain, and validate cost reports, forecasts, EAC/ETC, and contingency analyses
- Perform schedule quality checks, progress assessments, and schedule analytics
- Identify, analyze, and document schedule and cost variances and assess potential impacts
- Support development and maintenance of project schedules, plans, and WBS
- Analyze contractor schedules to verify progress, identify risks, and assess performance trend
- Monitor contractor compliance with schedule-related contractual requirements
Risk, Change & Contract Management
- Collaborate with Project Managers to identify, assess, and document project risks
- Maintain risk registers and support development of mitigation strategies
- Support change management processes and ensure approved changes are properly documented and tracked
- Ensure contract agreements reflect project controls requirements and verify contractor compliance
Portfolio & Reporting Support
- Assist with analysis, optimization, and reporting across the project portfolio
- Support assessments of risks associated with delivering scope within multi-year budget plans
- Provide clear, accurate reporting to project leadership and stakeholders
Experience
- Minimum 6 years of capital project management and/or project controls experience
- Preferred experience in utility capital projects, combined cycle natural gas (CCGT), or rotating equipment
- Desired: 10 years supporting large-scale capital projects
- Desired: Experience working under multiple contract types, including EPC, with both owner and contractor project controls exposure
Technical Skills
- Strong expertise in schedule, cost control, and risk management fundamentals
- Advanced proficiency with Oracle Primavera P6
- Strong spreadsheet-based analytical skills
- Solid understanding of project and construction management principles
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related field
- OR equivalent relevant work experience
Certifications (Preferred)
- PMI and/or AACEi certifications (PMP, PMI-SP, CCP, etc.)
