Academies of Math and Science - Power Special Education Paraprofessional (Teacher’s Assistant) Location: 7301 E Baseline Road, Mesa, AZ 85209 Compensation: $15.50 – $17.00/hour (DOE) Start Date: Summer 2026 Schedule: Full-Time, On-Site Position Overview Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities. AMS is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Special Education Paraprofessional (Teacher’s Assistant) to join our team at the AMS Power Campus in Mesa. The Special Education Paraprofessional works closely with general education and special education teachers to support students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and diverse learning needs. This role provides targeted instructional support, assists with behavior interventions, and helps maintain a structured, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. The ideal candidate is patient, collaborative, and passionate about supporting students with special needs in achieving academic and personal success. Key Responsibilities Instructional Support Assist general education and special education teachers with lesson delivery, classroom activities, and instructional support. Work with students one-on-one and in small groups to reinforce skills, reteach concepts, and support IEP goals. Support differentiated instruction and individualized learning plans. Prepare instructional materials and assist with classroom setup and organization. Student Support & Behavior Management Assist in implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and provide social-emotional support. Support students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development. Help maintain a structured, safe, and inclusive classroom environment. Encourage student independence, engagement, and positive behavior. Campus & Operational Support Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, lunch, and recess to ensure safety. Substitute for teachers when needed to support continuity of instruction. Assist with documentation and data collection related to student progress. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to meet student needs. Model professionalism, patience, and high expectations in all interactions. Qualifications & Competencies Required High school diploma or equivalent and passing score on a paraprofessional exam OR Associate’s degree or higher Previous experience as a Special Education Paraprofessional or working with students with disabilities Ability to obtain and maintain an Arizona IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment Preferred Bilingual Spanish/English Experience working in a Title I or high-need school environment Skills & Attributes Patience, adaptability, and a student-centered mindset Strong ability to support students with diverse learning needs Ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations Reliable, consistent, and detail-oriented Professional and positive communication style Compensation & Benefits AMS offers a competitive compensation and benefits package designed to support long-term growth and stability.
